Mortimer trail

Mortimer Country, is superb walking country. The are routes suitable for all levels of walking, from leisurely strolls to the pub or around a picturesque village. Well marked trails around local forests and country estates, to countryside rambles.  Mortimer Country is also home to several nationally recognised long distance Walking Trails.

This exceptionally lovely walk takes you through the beautiful Shropshire and Herefordshire countryside, from Ludlow to Kington.
The walk begins at the splendid, medieval Ludlow Castle in Shropshire and heads towards Aymestrey, crossing the River Teme before passing through Mortimer Forest, Haye Park Wood and Deer Park. This section also visits the British Iron Age hill fort at Croft Ambrey, where there are fabulous views of the surrounding area.

Right on the trail walk out of the door, left for Ludlow, right for Kington, but plenty more footpaths closer to home, with walks through the woods to find breathtaking views of the Teme Valley or south looking towards the Malvern Hills. A favourite walk is to visit the old hill fort at Croft Ambrey and return via Croft Castle, you just need a stick and some good walking boots.
